Taking ideas to business success stories

Some of these generated multiple hundreds of millions in revenue and employed thousands of people.
Scott is also a recovering father to three successful now grown children. Having raised the kids on his own, he has both a treasure trove of priceless memories and database of unique learning moments. By navigating past many of the challenges faced by moms, dads and professionals, his approach in business often includes a view to helping others or improving lives in some small way.
His current business endeavors are in wellness, longevity and neuroscience. At a time in history when many investors are chasing developments in AI, Pollock believes the most rewarding returns will always come from investing in oneself and loved ones. Tech and AI will foster improvements in areas such as medicine, yet by definition will cause a further dumbing down of society and the slow extinguishment of the flame that is the unique human mind and spirit.

SP Labs is a business incubator in Texas where the occasional spark turns to structure. More workshop than showroom, it’s mainly white boards, materials, chemicals and prototypes. Ideas are tested and when something clicks, real solutions and products can come to life. Most ideas don’t survive, but they become building blocks for deeper perspective. And the rare gems discovered along the way may become a thriving business.
Turning “what if” into “watch this”
In the nation’s heartland just down the road from Husker stadium, Scott Pollock’s entrepreneurial spirit took shape near the intersection of ball fields, courts and oval tracks. Little league and competitive sports became the roadmap for knowing how to reach deeper inside for other pursuits in life. But it was growing up in a family in the middle of the thoroughbred racing business which forged a unique perspective. All of Scott’s summer jobs from elementary school to college graduation were at the racetrack, whether in the stables or racing management office. A novice polymath who decoded things like the alchemy of odds and payouts, he steered clear of delving into the fun gambling side. Rather, it was connecting with horse owners, trainers, grooms, jockeys, vets and the beautiful steeds themselves that brought lessons that could be parlayed into business and life’s own unpredictable derby.
After getting a business degree with studies in math and philosophy, Scott went to work in the corporate world. Within a few years he left to chart his own course and began putting venture capital deals together, eventually starting a firm and many subsequent partnerships. The beauty in abstractions and deriving order from chaos shifted from classroom to the business world.
Having raised three children largely on his own, there was a trove of memories made and unique learning moments that came with that kind of territory. Priceless, it become even a tool in business whereby the views seem more panoramic.
